Your World and My World

Albert Hammond

The review

Born in London, Albert Hammond spent his childhood in Gibraltar, his parents' home. With Mike Hazlewood, he wrote for the Pipkins, Magic Lanterns and others before moving to America and scoring ‘It Never Rains in Southern California’ in 1972. His work as a songwriter then became prominent, with Leo Sayer taking ‘When I Need You’ to No. 1. During the AOR boom, Hammond once again drew attention in Japan with this 1981 album, released there under the title Kaze no Lullaby.

The Japanese sleeve was changed to a seaside scene, giving an impression of atmospheric AOR, but the contents are notable for melodious songs with a touch of sweetness. A refreshing breeze seems to pass through them. Jim Ed Norman produced, bringing a West Coast pop sound, with co-writers Tom Snow, Eric Kaz and Steve Kipner among the names. The third and sixth tracks are especially comfortable, beautifully coloured by Jennifer Warnes and the other backing singers.
