Love Will Keep Us Together

Daryl Dragon and Toni Tennille began working as a duo after accompanying the Beach Boys on tour. Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield’s bright, cheerful ‘Love Will Keep Us Together’ became a US No. 1 hit, its punchy vocal and Daryl’s colourful keyboard playing carrying a breezy pop sound. Toni’s ‘The Way I Want to Touch You’, a song washed in the smooth feel of adult pop, followed as another major hit.

Their approachable, sunny MOR sound also appealed to older listeners, making them popular in the latter half of the 1970s. The album draws on Brian and Tony Asher’s ‘God Only Knows’, Daryl and Dennis Wilson’s ‘Cuddle Up’, and Bruce Johnston’s ‘Disney Girls’ and ‘I Write the Songs’. Their close connection with the Beach Boys provides celebrated songs that Toni sings with deep emotion. Daryl’s keyboards and arrangements turn them into a bright, spacious sound with no sense that the guitars are missing.
