Craig Fuller / Eric Kaz
Craig Fuller / Eric Kaz
The review
This is the debut by Eric Kaz, who made the singer-songwriter classic If You're Lonely and is also known as the writer of the much-covered ‘Love Has No Pride,’ and Craig Fuller, formerly of country-rock group Pure Prairie League. Together they had also made two albums in 1976 and 1977 as members of American Flyer. Here the West Coast rock colouring is stronger, with marvellous production making the quality of each song stand out.
One immediately hears an affinity with Jackson Browne's sound. Russ Kunkel and Lee Sklar's rhythm section and Rosemary Butler's backing vocals play a part, but Fuller's voice and way of singing are similar too. ‘Till You Come Back’ and ‘Annabella’ could almost have appeared on a Jackson album. Kaz's fine ‘Cry Like a Rainstorm’ is performed again here, sung by Fuller. Its gospel-like tune blends with Fuller's magnificent voice to make a song that brings tears to the eyes.
