Mannequin

Marc Jordan

The review

Although he has had few hits himself, Marc Jordan has supplied songs to leading artists such as Diana Ross and Cher, as well as Rod Stewart's British and American hit ‘Rhythm of My Heart,’ co-written with John Capek. Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1948, he is Canadian and grew up in Toronto. He released several singles through Columbia Records in Canada in 1974, but made little impact. Signing with Warner Bros. in America in 1977, he made his full debut with Mannequin.

The album was produced by Gary Katz and engineered by Roger Nichols, both closely associated with Steely Dan. That connection brought Donald Fagen in on keyboards, along with Larry Carlton, Chuck Rainey, Dean Parks and other session musicians familiar from Steely Dan records. Unlike Steely Dan, this is neither complex nor difficult: its memorable melodies and finely descriptive lyrics invite unhurried listening.
