Escape

After leaving Yonin Bayashi and passing through Prism, guitarist Katsutoshi Morizono began to work under his own name. On Escape he remakes material by the Attitudes—a group Al Kooper once praised as a white answer to Kool & the Gang—alongside a piece by session guitarist James Vincent. His ear for the groove remains sharp.

“The Cadillac Kid,” originally a Ben Sidran composition, grows into a broad instrumental. On “Untitled Love Song,” Morizono's midtempo vocal is surrounded by strings and a female chorus, making the music feel both lean and luxurious. This is a solo record with the weight of a well-drilled band behind it.
