ココナツ・バンク

Coconut Bank

The review

Thirty years after the Showboat live performance, Ginji Ito's elusive Coconut Bank reunited at a cafe-rock event. Then, astonishingly, their first album appeared. Track 1 leaps out with a spin, a nostalgic second-line funk. Just when you think they have hardly changed, the words carry much more weight. This is indeed a new-century Tokyo strut. The uptown pop of track 2 is unmistakably Todd Rundgren-like. In the passage of time hidden in their theme song 6, is your smile a distant memory?
