1981 · THE LISTENING ROOM
Cinema Hotel
Akira Terao
The review
“Cinema Hotel” sits behind the enormous hit “Ruby no Yubiwa,” but it deserves its own light. Akira Terao's low, controlled voice moves through a restrained arrangement whose empty spaces feel as important as the notes.
The mood is cinematic without becoming grand: a private scene, a dim room and a melody that refuses to hurry. As a B-side, it deepens the urban melancholy of one of the era's most familiar singles.
