The review
“Shoka no Kaori” is the quieter side of Makoto Kubota's tropical imagination. Its unhurried rhythm and warm ensemble sound already point toward the hybrid island music he would develop with the Sunset Gang.
The A-side, “Bye Bye Baby,” gives the single a more extroverted face. Both songs were later revisited for Hawaii Champloo, but these single versions preserve their own compact character.
